When I passed by Technician's exam in July, 2013, the FCC assigned me the call sign KC3AZL. I then started studying for my General exam and in September, 2013 I passed that exam. Shortly afterwards I found out about the ability to get a vanity call sign. It turned out to be pretty easy to decide what I wanted. I have a side business called AEG Data Solutions, LLC. The AEG are the first initials of my three neices.

A = Ally
E = Eleena
G = Gabi

With that in mind, I decided to go for N3AEG. N for my last name and 3 being for my geographical region. I applied and got really lucky. I believe the FFC approves vanity call signs on the first Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday following a 21 day wait. The way I calculated this, it would be approved on October 1, 2013. Well, the government had a shutdown scheduled to begin that day. I got very luck and my call sign was approved hours before the shutdown.
