I was tired of driving and with the time change, I was running late, so I wanted to go to one of the "local" parks. My home park, US-0830 is still closed due to the shutdown, so I went to Morgan Run (US-6393). It was a good day since the bands were go and the wind died down.

Since hindsight is 20/20, perhaps going to Samuel S Lewis State Park today wasn't the best idea. It sits on the top of a hill and the weather was around 50 and very windy. I made it a short activation and for 40 QSO's. I'm definitely going back when it's warmer since the park has an incredible view.

For my birthday, I took the day off and went to Patapsco State Park (US-1588) with the intent to get 54 QSO's so I could get my Kilo. I ended up with over 80, so mission accomplished.

I've been working on a Python script to convert my POTA logs to HTML so I can post them here.

My last POTA was at Patapsco Valley State Park on 10/19/2025, you can see my log here:

I'm Back!!

I haven't posted since 2020, so it is about time.

I pretty much dropped out of amature radio after the BARC club closed. I live in a condo, so operation from there doesn't make a lot of sense.

My sister retired a few years ago, and I kept saying she should get her radio license. One day she said she was studying the for Technician's license and passed, now she's KO4VYT. I will say she has surpassed me by also getting her General and Amature Extra licenses.

One day we were talking and she asked me if I ever heard from POTA or Parks on the Air, which I hadn't. POTA is and independent program that encourages operators to go to state and federal parks and operate their radios, these are known as Activators. The goal is to get Hunters to make a contact with you while you're at the park. Hunters can be anywhere, even another park.

POTA changed my radio life forever. After about 18 months, I have 280 activations and almost 16,500 contacts. I'm not going to get more into POTA here, but I will be adding a page link above about my experiences with POTA.

My plan is to start showing my activations and contacts below.
